The definition of self- care is "the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress". When you take care of your own needs, reducing stress, you are better prepared to be in a position to help others.

Self-Care; the practice of looking after one's own emotional wellbeing

Self-care can often be mistaken for selfishness or self indulgence but this is certainly not the case. Self-care is not a luxury, it is a necessity for maintaining your health and wellbeing, preventing illness, reducing stress and being able to cope with your day to day responsibilities.

Self-care is often assumed to be manicures, pedicures and hair appointments but, whilst this is very nice, it is really so much more than this. Self-care is taking care of your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Examples of self-care - Eating a healthy diet;

- Drinking plenty of water;

- Spending time in nature;

- Sitting in the sun;

- Exercising;

- Getting quality sleep;

- Meditating;

- Being kind to yourself;

- Journaling;

Whatever self-care means to you, commit to doing that and doing it often! Do what brings you joy. Enjoy what makes you feel good. Take time for yourself and don't always put other's needs before your own. As the saying goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup. So keep your cup overflowing and watch your life transform.
