"I am" ... the two little words that can change your life forever.
We often find ourselves thinking negative thoughts about ourselves or our circumstances. "I'm never going to be able to do this", "No one likes me", I'm not good enough". Sound familiar?
Negative thoughts can affect your life dramatically, even if we don't realise it. It can affect our mood, our confidence and our decisions and be very destructive to our lives. The more negative thoughts we have, the more we will start to believe them leading us to believe that we are not good enough, we are not loved, we are not deserving, we are not worthy. A downward spiral to unhappiness.
The good news is, you can turn this around by consciously repeating positive affirmations on a daily basis. The more you practice your positive affirmations, the more you will start to believe them... and that's where the magic happens.
Many of you may be thinking that this is not possible. Think of it like exercise. The more you exercise, the stronger and fitter you get so by consciously thinking positive thoughts as apposed to negative, it allows you to rewire your brain and believe them to be true. Neuroplasticity research shows us that by focusing on something, we strengthen those regions of the brain and make them stronger, just like when we exercise.
How do I create a positive affirmation?
Think of an area of your life in which you would like to improve and the associated negative thoughts that you would like to turn around. It could be anything, for example, doing better at school, stepping up at work, improving your relationships, looking after your finances better etc. Now think of the negative thoughts that surround the issue and reverse them, making them positive in nature. Make sure that your thoughts are attainable and realistic and truly believe in yourself that you hold the power to change them. For example, "I'm never going to pass this subject at school" could be reversed and instead your positive thought could be "I am intelligent and I am excited to learn this subject".
